Lindsay Lohan is Sober!by baladmin | August 17, 2013
Lindsay Lohan is out of rehab and sat down to talk to Oprah Winfrey about her addiction.
Lindsay is one of countless famous addicts. She is clean and sober right now, unlike many others who stay addicted, or who lose their lives to drugs and alcohol.
Lindsay Lohan has been to rehab six times, she got two DUIs, has been arrested six times, has been in seven car accidents, and has spent fourteen days in jail. That is quite a track record for a woman in her mid-twenties. Lindsay admits to Oprah, yes I am an addict. Her drug of choice is alcohol, which she says was a gateway drug for her. She used cocaine so that she could drink more, so she knows that alcohol is what has the greatest hold on her.
Like other famous addicts who have gotten sober, Lindsay says she experienced a wake-up call she could not ignore. Things started to go downhill for Lindsay when she first moved to Los Angeles at 18 years old. She immediately made millions starring in movies, and had no guidance on how to live and how to manage her money.
Getting her first DUI did nothing to change Lindsay’s behavior. Going to jail not too long after that planted the seed of a real problem in Lindsay’s mind, but as she tells Oprah, it was easier to run from the pain of her childhood than to face it by getting sober.
What’s Different This Time?
Lindsay can identify that an inability to make an effort to feel good kept her sick. The dis-ease she experienced, that she self-medicated with alcohol, was a direct result of not caring whether she felt positive, confident, or physically healthy. She now feels whole for the first time in a long time, if not ever, and she wants to work each day to keep the changes in place. In her words, the “desire to want to keep this feeling and stay this way. I’m willing to do whatever it takes.”
The new attitude and humble demeanor, to learn from addicts who have more sobriety than she has, shows Lindsay’s growth and true passion for recovery.
Recovery in the Public Eye
Famous addicts, like Lindsay Lohan, who share their story not only help themselves stay clean, but also help inspire others to do the same work for themselves. It seems Lindsay is ready for a new life without alcohol, and hopefully her story, and the story of other famous addicts like Robert Downey Jr., can serve as positively encourage others to seek help before jail and unfixable life consequences result.
