The Value of JCAHO Accredited Treatment Centersby Balboa Horizons | October 4, 2017
Neither addiction nor treatment should not be taken lightly. The decision to get clean and treat addiction is a serious one. Rehab is a gross investment of time, money, and self – a happy successful sober life depends on proper care. Explaining the value of jcaho accredited treatment centers is a top priority at Balboa Horizons.
JCAHO is a non-profit organization known as the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, or more simply: the Joint Commission. The Joint Commission established the Behavioral Health Care Accreditation Program to encourage quality care in all types of freestanding behavioral health care facilities, including rehab facilities. In the eyes of the Joint Commission, providing safe, high quality care, treatment and services to clients and continually improving performance are the benchmarks of success.
As the rehab space continues to change, more non-quality, untrustworthy organizations get involved for the wrong reasons. Anyone can tout their own “successes,” but accreditation from a third party – especially one as storied and trusted as the Joint Commission – does not come easily. This is an honor that is earned, not given.
According to the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services, less than half of the 13,339 addiction treatment programs surveyed were accredited.
In order to achieve JCAHO accreditation, rehab facilities are examined based on:
- Ethics, Rights, and Responsibilities: Informing clients of their responsibilities in the care process; respecting clients’ rights like informed consent, resolution of complaints, and confidentiality; and managing business practices in an ethical manner.
- Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services: Assessment of clients, education of client and family, direct client care, monitoring and determining the outcomes of care, and coordination of follow-up care.
- Medication Management: Medication use, including availability, prescribing or ordering, preparation and dispensing, administration and monitoring of effect.
- Management of the Environment of Care: a safe, functional and effective environment for clients, staff, and other individuals in the organization. This includes emergency preparedness, security, safety, life safety, equipment, utility systems, hazardous materials and waste management.
When going through this trying time, you need someone you can trust. JCAHO accredited Treatment Centers can help you make the right decision.
