what Is Gobble Gobble give?

Gobble Gobble Give is an event that has taken place for over 10 years. On Thanksgiving day, volunteers gather together to donate and feed the homeless.

The first year, they fed 28 people. The second year they fed 50, and the year after they reached 100. Last year, in 2013, they fed over 3,000 people in different locations in the United States.

Participants are encouraged to bring either a heated dish, 5 small toiletry kits, or blankets and clothing to donate.

This year, Gobble Gobble Give is hosted in these eight locations:

  • Los Angeles, California – Echo Park
  • Los Angeles, California – Santa Monica
  • Santa Ana, California
  • San Francisco, California

  • Austin, Texas

Balboa Horizons Attends gobble Gobble Give Each Year

On Thanksgiving Day, Balboa Horizons’ staff and clients from the men, women, and outpatient programs head to Los Angeles to donate items and food, and be of service to those in need.

At 10:15 a.m., volunteers begin to form a “conveyer belt” of food, where they package meals and “care packages” for drivers to hand out. At 11 a.m., the vehicles depart with food and items to give to homeless individuals living on skid row.

Service to Others Is crucial In Sobriety

Being of service to others is highly encouraged at Balboa Horizons. Helping others who are less fortunate reminds us to be thankful for what we have, allows us to get out of selfish thinking, and has a positive impact on both our lives and the lives of those we help. It encourages community, charity, and fellowship. It improves self-esteem and helps people in recovery stay sober.

Balboa Horizons is very grateful for the Gobble Gobble Give organization and the opportunity to teach our clients the value of service.
