Residents may bring one large suitcase, one duffel bag for shoes and one duffel bag for toiletries. Residents may bring their favorite quilt and pillows if they wish (although we supply them as well). Bring items that make you feel comfortable and safe such as pictures or stuffed animals.
• Personal toiletries, including shampoo, toothpaste, hairbrush, etc.
• Blow dryer/curling iron
• Casual clothes (both indoor and outdoor clothing appropriate for the season)
• Dressier clothes for outside community meetings
• Walking shoes/tennis shoes
• Sweats/gym clothes
• Bathing suit/bath towel
• Bathrobe, slippers, pajamas
• Jacket, sweater, sweatshirt
• Alarm clock and watch
• Stationery and stamps
• Personal address book
• Pens, pencils, high lighters
• Cigarettes (if you smoke) and a lighter
• If desired, a small radio or walkman; sexually or violently explicit music is not allowed
• Current prescriptions in original bottles or written prescriptions for any approved meds
**All medications must be in their original vial with the original label including the prescription number, original date ordered, pharmacy name and doctor’s name. Medications that are renewed or newly ordered will come from local pharmacy and payment is the client’s responsibility.
• Photo ID, medical insurance cards, money
• Car registration and insurance (if you bring or plan to bring a car)
• Copy of results of current TB test
Do Not Bring:
• Alcohol-based mouthwash, hydrogen peroxide or isopropyl alcohol
• Scissors of any type, mace, pepper spray or knives
• No expensive jewelry
• Clothing with alcohol/drug logos or swear words
• Provocative clothing
• Candles or incense
Additional details:
I. We provide laundry facilities and supplies on site at no additional cost.
II. We will provide limited transportation for activities outside of the program parameters (medical and/or legal appointments, etc.). Our goal is to increase independence and empower our women.
III. Random drug and alcohol testing is conducted throughout the program and testing positive may result in immediate discharge or mandatory detoxification services at an alternate facility (at the client’s expense) before re-entering Balboa Horizons.
IV. By accepting admission, residents consent to have all of their personal belongings examined at the time of admission and throughout their stay.
V. Whenever a resident’s actions violate our rules we will write the resident up and a specific consequence will be assigned.
VI. We stress participation in Al-Anon for the families of our residents. This allows the families to receive support and education about addiction and how to set limits. Please visit the Al-Anon website at www.al-anon.org.
