When someone rises to a certain level of fame, there seem to always be people who want to take him down. Of course celebrities make mistakes, and we have many examples of drug charges, misdemeanors, and felonies to show they are certainly not perfect, but often times allegations filed seem to be made without much proof.
Cee Lo Green, who you know from the group Goodie Mob, from the duo Gnarls Barkley, and as a judge on The Voice, has been accused of slipping a young woman Ecstasy. This is a felony charge, to which Cee Lo, real name Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, has pleaded not guilty.
This woman, whose name has not yet been released, claims that, during dinner out at a restaurant in Los Angeles, Cee Lo put ecstasy into her drink without her knowing. In her story, he then took her back to his hotel room and when she woke up, naked next to him, she had no idea how she got there.
Is This Possible?
The drug ecstasy, or MDMA, is classified as a psychedelic or a psychostimulant. It is generally taken in pill form or as a powder, which can be snorted, swallowed, or injected, and is a hallucinogen mixed with a stimulant, or an amphetamine (think speed, meth, or Adderall).
Ecstasy is used at parties, raves, and other social events and music festivals because it increases the user’s desire to dance, move around, and connect with people. The effects of ecstasy, generally called “rolling”, last for about 4 to 6 hours and create a sense of euphoria, happiness, clarity, empathy, peace, and pleasure.
While feeling great, the user’s body and brain are being negatively affected. Ecstasy can cause increased heart rate and respiration, excessive but unnatural energy, tightness in muscles, possible muscle spasms, jaw clenching, sweating, fainting, hyperactivity, blurred vision, dilated pupils, headaches, agitation, nausea, fainting, water toxicity or dehydration, increased body temperature, thought and memory impairment, possible seizure, stroke, coma, or instant death, and much more, depending on the person’s reaction to the chemicals used to make that particular batch of ecstasy.
The drug closes the serotonin receptors in the brain so that there is more of the mood-regulating neurotransmitter floating around. More dopamine equals more pleasure during use, but afterwards, the depletion of serotonin can lead to major depression as the brain works to rebalance its organic chemical levels.
Ecstasy alters the senses and creates changes in perception, and when consumed with alcohol, can lead to a blacked out state. Did this happen to the woman filing charges against Cee Lo Green? He returns to court on November 20th for trial.
Growing Ecstasy Abuse
MDMA, ecstasy, and Molly (said to be the purest form of the drug) are becoming popular among the next generation of drug users. Dance music, friends, and a few pills seem to be the best way for too many young people to spend a weekend. Without understanding the danger of a psychedelic mixed with a stimulant, ecstasy is being used to have a good time, but is then causing major physical, emotional, and psychological problems.
If you, or someone you know, has been abusing ecstasy or Molly, the time has come to stop. The desire to use the drug will only grow and the negative effects it has on your brain and body will only get worse. As is the case with any other drug, including alcohol, abuse quickly progresses to physical dependency and addiction.
